Clean hydrogen production from agricultural and livestock waste for aviation industry

Hydrogen, a clean and sustainable fuel, is gaining prominence as a key solution for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors, including aviation. Its production can be achieved through diverse pathways utilizing resources such as fossil fuels, nuclear energy, biomass, and renewable energy sources. As a prominent agricultural nation, Thailand produces substantial quantities of agricultural and livestock waste, which hold significant potential as feedstocks for clean hydrogen production. This approach not only mitigates waste but also advances circular economy principles and facilitates the aviation industry’s transition toward sustainability.

This project aims to develop innovative technologies and prototypes for converting crop and livestock residues into clean hydrogen, which serves as a precursor in the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). The project also includes assessing the carbon footprint of the developed technologies to ensure their environmental viability.

The initiative is funded by the Science, Research, and Innovation Promotion Fund.
