The Thai-German Cooperation on Energy, Mobility, and Climate (TGC EMC) program, in collaboration with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), is conducting research on integrated energy systems modeling and analysis to support Thailand’s transition to sustainable energy. With the country’s targets of carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero emissions by 2065, the research aims to address gaps in current energy plans (up to 2037), including the need for extended planning horizons and sector-coupling strategies. This initiative will assist the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) in defining integrated long-term energy planning and emission reduction pathways aligned with Thailand’s Long-term Low Greenhouse Gas Emissions Development Strategy (LT-LEDS).
As part of this effort, a focus group meeting will be held on 10 October 2024, in collaboration with local and international partners, including Hub Net Zero. The meeting will gather key stakeholders to brainstorm and collectively refine scenarios and technology pathways tailored to Thailand’s specific context. Policymakers, planners, analysts, experts and consultants from multiple ministries and expert organizations are expected to participate, ensuring broad input toward Thailand’s sustainable energy transition.
